My sister Rose is absolutely amazing at looking into a bare fridge and creating something out of nothing. Insignificant leftovers turned into a great meal. Creating can be much the same way. Often after working on a piece, i have little leftovers laying about on my desk. Alright maybe it's my whole desk that looks that way but that's just an opportunity to create more.
This is the perfect time to pull out an art journal and play, using up those leftover pieces. Gather them into a pile and trying using some of them up. On this page you can see...
- an image stamped a while ago while just playing around (see this blog post). I doodled some wings onto her
- "soar" stamped to clean off my stamps after using it on another project
- lots of Spray ink left on my desk, a perfect opportunity to play
- scraps of patterned paper laying around
- ink that bled through the pages and another tiny strip of patterned paper
On my desk after creating a few upcoming projects was a little pile of goodness: tickets, patterned paper, punch leftovers, string, washi tape, punched book pages, spray ink, & paint.
on this particular page i started by laying down some spray ink.
i closed the page to spread the blue ink onto the other page. i layered more spray ink and paint around the background.
I keep adding color until i am happy with the background. now i get to add some random pieces from my stash.
Not all items may end up on my page. It's up to you to decide what stays and what goes. Here i added the kraft tickets, the punched book pages, scraps of patterned paper, and punched star leftovers.
I use leftovers not only for art journal pages but for scrapbook pages too. See the bottom of this post for more details on this scrapbook page using leftovers.
