Many people ask us where Doha, Qatar is located so i thought i would share a map. It's right next to Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. It's close to the U.A.E. We have been enjoying our short time here together. And all too soon we have to leave to go home. We had a great time here, mostly just soaking up time together and exploring a bit here and there.
Downtown is booming with cranes, buildings, and growth. Less than 10 years ago there were just two hotels and not much else. Now it is filled with unique buildings with surprising architecture. It does lack boutiques, quaint shops, and local markets. I hope that one day it is filled with them. The city center mall however is located downtown and just a short walk from Andy's apartment. And the Corniche is right next to his apartment which provides lovely walks around the waterfront.
I love the signs located on the Corniche as well. The sunsets are beautiful. And the downtown looks so spectacular at night.
These camels were located near the souq waqif and we were so happy to find them here. They seem synonymous with this area.
The souq waqif is an open air market filled with personal shops, tourist trinkets, art galleries, and restaurants. It has been around for over 100 years. It was recently refurbished adding in some modern amenities. It is known for selling traditional garments, spices, handicrafts, and souvenirs. It has a ton of restaurants that also serve shisha. You can see the Hooka pipes lining the buildings like the above photos. One of my favorite places to shop is the Spice & Candy store. Yes they are one store with barrels of amazing spices and tasty treats. We often go there in the evenings for a bite to eat, to stroll through the stalls, and to watch the man make bangles out of wax.
We return home tomorrow. It's the hardest thing to do to leave Andrew. My heart breaks every time i do. For me home is whenever we are together and 12 weeks seems so little time to spend at home. I get through it knowing i will see him in a few short weeks. So very thankful for that comfort.
