After a long but uneventful travel day on Friday, we made it Doha, Qatar to be with Andrew at Christmas. We usually fly from Denver to Houston and then hopped a flight direct from Houston to Doha. It's a 13.5 hour flight but we were able to sleep most of the way.
After landing at 7:30 pm we headed to the souq for dinner and a little light shopping. We mostly walked around taking in the night time atmosphere. The kids bought some trinkets to take back to friends. I was happy to just walk hand in hand with Andrew. Sigh.
Andrew moved from a suburb compound to a city apartment building a few months ago. It was a decision we made together and we are both very pleased with it. His view of downtown is simply spectacular. Especially when you are jet lagged and wake up at 4 am.
I am settling more & more into life here with each trip. I am beginning to get the flavor of this country little by little. We can walk to the mall it's so close for a trip to the grocery store. (Yes it's in the mall) I dig it, even if you have to plan for how much you can carrying back home. I love that the super market has barrels of spices and every kind of date possible. I am on a taste testing mission to seek out the ones i like the best. If you have any date recipes please share them. I am seeking out different meals to cook here using the local ingredients. I am even brushing up on my kitchen conversions. No, i have tackled cooking fish yet but that is on the horizon.
With Jet Lag, we have mostly stuck close to home just walking around the city every now & then. We plan to do a little light exploring in a few days, maybe even jeeping through the desert with some friends. But right now, we are just so happy to have time together, treasuring each simple moment.
