i really enjoy working with these mini canvases. At 4"x4", they are the perfect little size to spark my creativity. i thought a little heart canvas would be perfect with Valentine's Day around the corner. On this layout i dug into my Sizzix supplies to create lots of textures. Here's a peek into my process.
First i applied a thin coat of gesso onto the background. Then using the new thinlits from Sizzix, i cut a piece of cardstock and used it as a mask on my canvas. I saved that little piece to use for another creation. After it dried, i used my favorite NeoColor II crayons. If you watched my jumpstart video, i showed you some basic ways to use them!
Next i cut some wings with the heart wings die from Tim Holtz using some grunge board. i painted these with some fluid acrylic paints in shades of browns. i used a very small round brush to paint an outline on the wings.
This heart is cut from the same die as above. The material is from Elizabeth Crafts Designs called Shimmer Sheetz. It's such an awesome product that comes in many cool colors. i used the measuring tape textured impressions on the shimmer sheets to create an embossed heart.
Plus you can alter it with alcohol inks. Here i used stream & plum alcohol inks on the red metallic shimmer sheetz. i also sanded down the raised measuring pieces.
Totally diggin the color story on this piece. i added some vintage maps to the background before coloring it with the crayons. i love the way the purple & red heart pops against the aqua, orange, and yellow colors. Can you see the chevrons peeking through the colors? i think this very well may be my new favorite mini canvas!
In other news, BLUE MOON Scrapbooking has my new stencils available for purchase now in their online store! Thanks Carolyn for the heads up!
