i have always loved the poem by ee cummings. i love the way he played with words and structure. it's as if his words dance on the page. this poem has so many moments of my life attached to it that it only seem fitting it should go on this hip bag from Maya Road. it was the poem i read for chrissi's funeral and it's the poem i often think about with for my andrew. it's how love should always be.
you see each trade show, the design team takes on a showcase challenge meant to reflect our own styles. the last three shows it was a canvas challenge. you can see my previous canvases here: CHA 2012 S, CHA 2012 W, CHA 2011 S. This show however Caroline decided to change things up (she likes to frighten us a little ;) and gave us alterable canvas hip bags instead. at first i thought, oh cool. then reality set it that i would have to transform this bag. it's funny how that happens.
but then i breathed and remember it just had to look like me. it had to be something i would want to carry around because after all, it's mine after the show. i started working on the background with gesso, my kaleidoscope stencil, lisa's antiquated collection perfumery stamp, maya road stamps and mists. it flowed onto the canvas so easily once i let go of my fears. i wanted something on the bottom right, something that both spoke to me and radiate me. seeing the linen heart i immediately knew what i was going to do next.
i have really enjoyed this challenge. i cannot wait to use my bag and i cannot wait to see what the other design team members have done with their hip bags.
