Thank you all for the wonderful and thoughtful questions from last week's create daily post. I have been sorting through them and will answer them all in upcoming posts. Today's post is all about building up for success. Over the years i have learn little tricks that help me create daily, especially in my art journal. One of those tips is building backgrounds ahead of time.
My backgrounds almost always start with a layer of gesso. i tend to use lots of acrylics so a good gesso layer is essential. it is always layer one of many layers on my art journal pages. i love texture too so i am always scratching into the gesso.
Sometimes before the paint i will add little bits of leftover paper. it's usually what is sitting on my desk. it's like tidying up and being creative all rolled into one.
My art journal pages rarely span the two pages so often i will lay down color one one side and then change it up for the other side. Sometimes they go and somethime they don't seemingly go but i know i can always change that if i wish.
i never worry about that in my first go round. i just play. Gesso covers anything so if i don't end up liking the colors, i can go over it. i know these are just the first layers.
i will also use spray inks along with my acrylic paints to create different looks. These two pages are acrylic paints with spray inks on top. The very first two pages are just spray inks. Now i have ten basic backgrounds ready for the next two weeks. it's easy to grab my journal and go.
and now for the randomly selected winner of the 12 x 12 Fancy Feathers Stencil. Once again, thank you for taking the time to comment and leave me such awesome questions!
