After a couple days back in Doha, Andrew had to work again. This time he was off to Belgium, Brussels to be exact. We left early morning and had less than 24 hours to explore this city. It wasn't much time but every minute i am with Andrew i treasure for these 4 years apart aren't easy. So walking around Brussels with Andrew, hand in hand, was such a blessing.
We took the train in from our hotel at the airport to the central station. i love that first step into a new city when excitement fills the air and my pulse quickens. Andrew had already been here exploring and was excited to show me some of his favorite spots.
Our first stop was for some hot frites on this chilly afternoon. These special french fries of Belgium are served in overflowing paper cones dripping with your choice of sauce, mostly made of mayonaise. They were a delicious way to start our day here. Right behind the little plaza and frites stand was this beautiful little chapel. Exquisitely situated at the top of a little plaza.
From the little chapel to the big cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula. The interior had beautiful stain glass windows, a giant carved pulpit, and navitity scenes set up from around the world.
The view of the city from the hill of the Cathedral was stunning. We continued on foot exploring Brussels ducking in stores, plazas, and of course chocolatiers.
Mmmm Chocolate. Mmmmm Belgium Chocolate.
Did you know the chocolate bar was invented in Brussels? Going into these shops felt like that scene in Willy Wonka where the kids go exploring the candy room. We stepped in and the gal immediately offered us a tasting of different chocolates.
Pralines (Chocolate Truffles or Chocolate Bon-Bons) are overflowing in bowls around the shop. Filled with hazelnut, Bailey's, marizipan, rhum, and so many other delicious flavors we felt obligated to try. How else would we be able to pick our favorites?
You can fill these cute tins with your favorite flavors but we knew our chocolates would be devoured by the evening so we skipped the tins.
Chocolate overload or Heaven on Earth?
Take your pick but i was one happy gal. Andrew & i purchased a few an abundance of chocolates and continued our exploring of this fine European City.
