For the past few CHA's the Maya Road design team creates their own 8 x 10 canvas representing who they are along with their style. It's a fun challenge and i really enjoy seeing all the design team member's creations. We are an eclectic team so the canvases look so different. This year i was struggling a bit.
I first laid out layers of chipboard pieces that represented me thinking i would use it as a base. it took a lot of time to figure out the placement of the chipboard pieces that best represented me. I was going to use my tagline from the blog on it too (I still had to find the "L" in the letters). The next morning i looked at it and didn't like it so i took them all off and started over.
This time i added strips of paper down the canvas. I gessoed the layers and painted it with some paint & mists with the new butterfly masks. I painted the inside of the butterflies with spray inks and outlined them with a black pen. I added drips, painted the wooden butterflies, and glued everything down. The next morning i totally hated it so i ripped every thing off and started over.
I covered the whole thing with gesso and started over. I used the Crafter's Workshop stencil Art Is for the background. I layered on the mists started on the bottom working my way up to the top. A few white rub-ons here & there along with some spray ink splatters. I trimmed down the photo and layered the embellishments together. This layout is me. I am happy i trusted my instincts and changed directions until i was satisfied with my canvas.
